Here's how and why former Las Vegas Raiders WR Henry Ruggs was out of prison on Tuesday

On August 9, 2023, Henry Ruggs, the former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver, was incarcerated after a DUI that led to a fatal crash in Las Vegas, taking the life of 23-year-old Tina Tintor

Ruggs was sentenced to 3-10 years in prison in Nevada, just one mile from Allegiant Stadium, where he was catching passes at. After being the 12th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Ruggs played only two years, 20 games total, where he accumulated over 900 total receiving yards and four touchdowns.

At Alabama, he was a part of one of the best young receiving corps ever. He was taken so high in the draft because of the speed and athleticism he possessed at the wide receiver spot, and being able to play in the slot and on the outside. His talent was promising in the Jon Gruden offense, but his off-the-field actions ruined his career.

But, he didn't just ruin his career, he greatly affected others' lives. He is open and upfront about his mistakes.

Since August 9, 2023, he's been in prison. But, there's a video of him going around on Tuesday -- him holding a microphone and talking about his experience in prison, opening up about the mistake he made, and trying to help others. And, this video made some people ask -- isn't he supposed to be in prison?

Yes, yes he is, and he still is in prison. But, he was granted the ability to leave briefly for an hour or two. Ruggs was on a special release on Tuesday, where he spoke at a Hope for Prisoners event in Las Vegas and apologized to the family of Tina Tintor.

Ruggs is still set to serve his sentence in Nevada, as his appearance in the public, or somewhat public, was just him being granted a brief special release.
