Former Raiders’ WR Henry Ruggs was the featured speaker at ‘Hope For Prisoners’ on Tuesday as he was granted a special release to share his story and answer questions.
Ruggs started by sharing the message he would want to give the family of Tina Tintor, who passed away along with her dog after being struck by Ruggs’ Corvette on November 2, 2021.
“I would love for them to meet the real Henry Ruggs and not the one that was escaping from something. I sincerely apologize,” Ruggs said.
“I sincerely apologize for not only being a part of that situation, but the fact my face is always in the news, it’s always in the newspaper. So they have to constantly be reminded of the situation, be reminded of me.”
Ruggs was then asked questions about his future in the NFL, and potentially Las Vegas.
When asked if he would be willing to play for the Raiders again, Ruggs didn’t hesitate.
“Why would I not?” he asked.
And that answer from Ruggs sparks an interesting conversation.
When he is released from jail, should the Raiders consider bringing back their former first-round pick?
Just days after the tragic accident in 2021, Mark Davis said the Raiders were not going to abandon their then 22-year-old star.
“Henry Ruggs is still a human being and Raider alumni and somebody that we want to help,” Raiders’ owner Mark Davis told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “We’ll be there for him… [we’re] not going to abandon him. He’s part of our family.”
Davis wasn’t talking about bringing Ruggs back at the time, but it’s fair to wonder if he might be open to the idea down the road.
Once he has served his time, should the Raiders consider bringing Ruggs back?
