Joan Vassos recently kicked off The Golden Bachelorette season 1, and recently received a friendly visit from The Golden Bachelor's Gerry Turner. 61-year-old Joan and 73-year-old Gerry share a romantic past. The two met when Joan applied to be a contestant on Gerry's season of the Bachelor spin-off. The two hit it off during a group date, but just as they were getting closer, a family emergency forced Joan to leave the show early. Her daughter had just given birth and needed her mother, so Joan put family first and walked away from Gerry's season.
Though it seemed like Joan's Golden journey had come to an end, she was cast as The Golden Bachelorette. After welcoming 24 impressive older men to The Bachelor mansion, Joan has connected with several men, but she's also had her share of challenges. The season's ups and downs have led Joan to doubt whether the process would lead her to the man of her dreams. It's customary for Bachelor franchise leads to make appearances during each other's seasons, to give one another valuable advice, and Gerry was no exception.
Gerry's Terrible The Golden Bachelor Appearance
He Hasn't Moved On
The Golden Bachelor season 1 ended with Gerry proposing to 70-year-old Theresa Nist. The two were married a few weeks after going public with their relationship, but they announced their divorce just three short months later. Though Gerry and Theresa were equally to blame for the abject failure of their ill-advised marriage, Gerry got more of the public's blame. He's understandably still bitter about the whole thing, and he proved it during his recent appearance on The Golden Bachelorette season 1.
A recent episode of The Golden Bachelorette season 1 ended with scenes from future episodes. These clips, which Bachelor Nation posted on YouTube, teased Gerry's visit to Joan. In one scene, Gerry asks Joan to consider maybe she won't find her true love here. Joan is already feeling confused and doubtful about the process, and Gerry only made it worse. His advice illustrates how bitter he still is about his time as The Golden Bachelor.
Is Gerry Right About Joan's Season?
There's Already A Lot Of Controversy
After a few episodes of The Golden Bachelorette season 1, it looks like Gerry's advice to Joan could turn out to be prescient. There was already a shocking scandal when it was revealed that one of her contestants, Gil Ramirez, a 60-year-old educator from Mission Viejo, California. According to People, Gil's ex-girlfriend filed a restraining order against him about three months ago, accusing him of stalking.
The stalking controversy wasn't the only hiccup on The Golden Bachelorette season 1.
Joan's world was turned upside down when Chock Chapple, one of the front-runners, left The Golden Bachelorette season 1 because his elderly mother lost her battle with cancer. Like Joan, Chock left the season early, which utterly devastated Joan. He left right after they'd had an incredible one-on-one date at Disneyland. Luckily, Chock returned to the show, but the incident left Joan deeply shaken and doubting the process.
Will Gerry Ever Appear On Another Bachelor Show?
Never Say Never
One of the best things about the Bachelor franchise is that contestants can appear again and again on various shows. Like Joan who first appeared in Gerry's season before leading her season of The Golden Bachelorette. Though Gerry couldn't find love on The Golden Bachelor season 1, he can always be back to give it another shot.
As long as Gerry continues to be single, he can always appear on another Bachelor Nation show.
One option is for Gerry to appear in a potential season of Golden Bachelor In Paradise. Though producers haven't announced the show yet, if they do, Gerry would make a great island guest. If his appearance on The Golden Bachelorette season 1 is any indication, Gerry is still bitter about his time on the show.
