'He Wants to Remain in Green Bay;' Packers Close to Agreement with Disgruntled Star

As mentioned, many believed that Alexander was as good as gone after he made his comments following the end of the season. Reports of a disagreement between himself and the organization over how his torn PCL should be treated ran rampant in 2024, and given the Panthers incident in 2023, it seemed as if a divorce was inevitable.

But Alexander, when healthy, is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. He is also the first player general manager Brian Gutekunst ever drafted. In other words, he is a not a player that the front office was eager to move on from, regardless of what had happened over the last two seasons.

That being said, the Packers did make the star cornerback available for trade. However, they did not get many offers. In fact, only one is known to have been made, and that one fell through because Alexander refused to restructure his contract for the interested team.

Now, however, it looks like a reunion is more probable than ever.

Per a report today by Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, “According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the Packers have proposed a restructured contract to Alexander, which tangibly demonstrates their interest in retaining the two-time All-Pro cornerback during an offseason in which they have been open to trading him.

“Alexander, 28, wants to remain in Green Bay and has two years remaining on a then-record contract extension he signed in 2022 for $21 million annually.”

Schneidman goes on to state that, while he has not yet agreed to the restructure and is not present for the voluntary portion of OTA’s, the star cornerback and his agent have said that he will be present for mandatory mini camp in early June.

He will be present even if the two sides have not come to an agreement when mandatory minicamp begins.
