Every leaf possible has fallen for Jerry Jones and yet the Dallas Cowboys owner has yet to extend quarterback Dak Prescott. A number of Cowboys insiders believe that a deal will get done, but there's unfortunately no sense in speculating on a timeline.
Based on the lack of progress in negotiations, Prescott could sign before, during or after training camp. It also wouldn't surprise if Prescott played out the 2024 season and re-upped with Dallas before free agency next March.
In the meantime, Cowboys fans are right to question whether the team has done enough to set Prescott up for success. While CeeDee Lamb is a top-five receiver, Brandin Cooks is entering his age-31 season and hasn't surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in three years.
Behind Lamb and Cooks, Dallas has a litany of unproven receivers. While there's buzz following Jalen Tolbert, Jalen Brooks and rookie Ryan Flournoy, it is fair to question what kind of impact they'll have. It certainly couldn't hurt to get a more experienced wideout in the door before training camp.
Well, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox proposed a hypothetical trade that would see Prescott reunite with former Cowboy Cedrick Wilson.

After a disappointing stint with the Dolphins, Wilson signed with the Saints as a free agent. He got two years and $5.8 million with $2.9 million guaranteed. That contract would suggest that Wilson has strong odds to make the 53-man roster. However, it may not be that cut and dry.
The Saints have a talented young group of receivers. In two seasons, 2022 first-round pick Chris Olave has compiled 159 catches for 2,165 yards and nine touchdowns. New Orleans also likes the potential of 25-year-old Rashid Shaheed and 2023 sixth-round pick A.T. Perry. Additionally, they drafted Pittsburgh product Bub Means in the fifth round.
It's not out of the realm of possibility that the Saints deem Wilson expendable by the end of training camp.
After all, Wilson hasn't been able to duplicate the success of his 2021 season. In two seasons in Miami, he managed just 34 catches for 432 yards and three touchdowns. Yes, the Dolphins traded for Tyreek Hill after Wilson signed in 2022, but his time in South Beach was a disappointment regardless.
Wilson has three years of experience catching passes from Prescott, culminating in a breakout season in 2021 when he caught 45 passes for 602 yards and six touchdowns as the No. 3 option behind Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb after Michael Gallup got hurt. If Dallas is interested, there's a path for Wilson to reassume the WR3 role this season
Knox didn't offer terms, but it stands to reason that Wilson could be had for a day three draft pick, likely a sixth- or seventh-rounder. He wouldn't be our first choice, but there'd be little risk involved and his chemistry with Prescott would be a huge bonus.
