When the Green Bay Packers selected Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, many fans and analysts were furious at the notion that the team saw a not-so-distant future that excluded future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. These feelings of resentment only increased as Rodgers went on to win the next NFL MVP Awards.
But, true to their plan, Green Bay did indeed move on from Rodgers, trading him to the New York Jets following a down year in 2022. In his first year under center, Love had the best initial season for a starting quarterback in Packers history:
Quarterback | Completion % | Yards | Touchdowns | Interceptions | Passer Rating |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Jordan Love | 64.2% | 4,159 | 32 | 11 | 96.1 |
Aaron Rodgers | 63.6% | 4,038 | 28 | 13 | 93.8 |
Brett Favre | 64.1% | 3,227 | 18 | 13 | 85.3 |
With such a successful first season under center, many expected Love to have even better numbers in 2024. Unfortunately, that did not happen.
Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love Struggled with Injuries in 2024

In Week One of the 2024 NFL season, Love went down with a sprained MCL in the closing seconds of Green Bay’s loss in Brazil to the Philadelphia Eagles. He returned after missing the next two games, but was obviously still feeling the effects of the injury.
A few weeks later, Love had to leave the Packers’ game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. It was soon revealed that he a strained his groin.
In a recent interview with Kay Adams of “Up and Adams,” Love revealed that he played through injuries all year, which he believed led to his inability to build on his strong 2023 campaign.
“I think, you look at this year, me, battling through injury. So, having that adversity that I’m trying to fight through,” Love said. “Several injuries. So it was a lot of that. A lot of fighting through, trying to get my mind right for the game, and trying to fight through some pain, things like that. It was an inconsistent year.
“It’s something that you’re, every week, every day in the facility you’re doing the rehab trying to fight through and just get ready for the game. A lot of your mindset goes into trying to get your body right for it. It’s tough. You’re not 100 percent. But we know that no one is ever 100 percent in the NFL.”
Love finished the season with a 63.1% completion percentage, 3,389 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 96.7 passer rating.

Many Packers fans returned to their belief that Love was not the quarterback that Green Bay needed during injury-plagued season. Others, though, maintained that he must have been affected by his injuries.
After Love revealed that he returned too early from his MCL sprain, which led to his groin injury, those fans had a great deal to say on social media:
As one can see from the posts above, Packers fans blame NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for forcing Green Bay to play on a terrible field surface in Brazil, as well as the Packers training staff and coaches for letting him come back before his body was ready.
Hopefully he will avoid any injuries in 2025.
