The Golden State Warriors are starting to find out what life is like without Klay Thompson , who is now with the Dallas Mavericks after a storied run with the Dubs. It will take some time for the Warriors – and their fans – to adjust to this new reality but as far as where Golden State head coach Steve Kerr is concerned, there is nothing to worry about Stephen Curry and Draymond Green with regard to playing without Thompson.
Via Kendra Andrews of ESPN:
The absence of Klay Thompson has been felt throughout Warriors training camp and preseason — as has the void he’s left in the lineup.
“We’ve got to find our identity with this team because Klay was such a huge part of our identity for the last 12 years,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr told ESPN. “His absence is a big void, but it’s not anything I’m worried about for Steph and Draymond [Green]. You adapt and you adjust. That’s what professional sports are all about.”
One challenge for the Warriors is finding the right guy to cover the void left by Thompson. Golden State made some moves in the offseason with the acquisition of guys like Buddy Hield and De’Anthony Melton, who are both capable of providing instant offense for the Warriors. For now, Kerr and the Warriors’ think tank will continue to tune up their rotation in the preseason.
Golden State opens its 2024-25 NBA regular-season schedule on Oct. 23 on the road against the Portland Trail Blazers.
