Although it’s been years since they finalized their divorce, Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz have remained constant figures in each other’s lives — and it’s thanks in large part to their adorable pets.
The ex-Vanderpump Rules couple adopted their first dog, Gordo, in 2014 and a second pup, Butter, in 2016 — the same year they exchanged “I do's.” Fast-forward roughly six years, when the fur parents announced their decision to call it quits. Tom alluded to the split in a June 2022 Instagram photo of Gordo and Butter, whom he described as “children of divorce.”
Tom on his dog custody arrangement with Katie: "I'm so happy"
The pair ultimately agreed to joint dog custody, an arrangement that became a bone of contention for the ex-couple. Tom revealed this in a 2024 interview with People magazine, saying his and Katie’s co-parenting relationship had gotten “ugly” at times.
“I feel like we’ve been through some rough moments in our post-divorce relationship,” he told the outlet. “I feel like we always handle it with decorum — for the most part.”

Tom said he and his ex-wife have since found a “great balance” when it comes to caring for Gordo and Butter.
“[We] have a good flow right now,” he added. “I’m so happy.”
