Giants trade up for 'franchise savior' in latest PFN mock draft

The New York Giants would ideally land on a franchise quarterback in the 2025 NFL draft but their preferred path to that end is remaining in place at No. 3 overall.

That’s not how the staff at Pro Football Network sees things playing out.

In their latest mock draft, Giants general manager Joe Schoen gambles away current and future assets in order to trade up to No. 1 overall where he selects the “franchise savior.”

Cam Ward, QB, Miami

Trade: The Tennessee Titans received the third overall pick from the New York Giants, as well as pick 34 in Round 2 and New York’s 2026 second-round selection.

The Giants coaching staff and front office are in desperation mode. They can’t miss out on the best quarterback prospect in the class. Someone will try to move up by draft night for Cam Ward, and in this case, it’s New York landing the gunslinger out of Miami.

For a team with so many glaring holes, giving up premium draft assets is not an ideal situation. Trading a first-round pick and two second-round picks is rough but in reality, it might not be enough to move the needle. Such a trade might even cost the Giants more.

Sure, Schoen lands Miami quarterback Cam Ward in this scenario, but then what? Well, PFN broke that down as well.

65) New York Giants

Darien Porter, CB, Iowa State

Listed at 6’4” and 200 lbs, Darien Porter has unreal length for a defensive back prospect. The mobility he plays with at his size sets him up to be a starting cornerback for the Giants early in his career.

PFN rounded out the Giants’ picks with LSU tight end Mason Taylor, Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon II, Georgia defensive tackle Nazir Stackhouse, Minnesota wide receiver Daniel Jackson, and Oklahoma edge rusher Ethan Downs.

This does not sound like a “preferred” scenario. It leaves too many gaps in the roster and costs two premium picks.
