Giants tank officially on after brutal injury update for Dexter Lawrence, rookie TE

The NY Giants are just playing out the string in the 2025 season, as there is nothing of value they can salvage from a catastrophically bad campaign that will cost many their jobs. One of the few positives is the fact that Dexter Lawrence and the rest of the defensive line appear to be a high-end unit.

Lawrence had been one of the best in the league at his position, but his play this season could make him the best defensive tackle in the NFL after Aaron Donald's retirement. Even amid such a rancid season, Lawrence has continued to produce at a high level as both a run-stuffer and quality pass rusher.

Joe Schoen's 2024 NFL Draft class may not be enough to save his job, but landing Malik Nabers, Theo Johnson, and Tyrone Tracy on offense to go along with Tyler Nubin and Dru Phillips on defense looks exemplary. Unfortunately, the Giants received back news on both of those fronts after a Thanksgiving loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Lawrence was ruled out for the remainder of 2025 after suffering what head coach Brian Daboll deemed to be a "long-term" dislocated elbow injury. At least the young guys will get reps, right/ Wrong!

Johnson's season is also done after a foot injury reared its head. No matter who ends up being the quarterback, the Giants are officially a dead team walking in 2024.

Lawrence, who has been named a second-team All-Pro performer in each of the last two seasons, has one of the highest pressure rates in the league despite being a nose tackle. Lawrence has nine sacks on the year. He, Brian Burns, and Kayvon Thibodeaux make up the best collection of individual players on this team.

Johnson, who was selected in the fourth round out of Penn State, has shown enough to enter 2025 as the clear No. 1 tight end on the roster. Johnson caught 29 passes for 331 yards and one touchdown as a rookie despite some extremely poor offensive coaching and overall quarterback play.

The Giants have resigned themselves to picking either Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders high in the 2025 NFL Draft order. With nothing to play for, the best course of action is to shut both of them down foe the rest of the year and hope they don't end up rolling snake eyes once again in the 2024 season.
