The New York Giants signed an experienced quarterback on Saturday as the dominoes begin to fall in the quarterback market before free agency begins at the start of the league new year on March 12.
The Seattle Seahawks traded Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders on Friday night, reuniting Pete Carroll with his former starting quarterback. With Smith in Las Vegas, the Seahawks are expected to be in on the sweepstakes to land Sam Darnold this offseason after his stellar 2024 campaign with the Minnesota Vikings.
Aaron Rodgers is a “dark horse” to the Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings have J.J. McCarthy returning to his second spring in the league from a knee injury last season. Minnesota apparently wants a veteran quarterback to battle for a starting job with McCarthy, and Aaron Rodgers is a “dark horse” for Minnesota and the Giants,” per the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
“Aaron Rodgers lurks, considering the Giants with the Vikings as a dark horse,” Rapoport posted on X.
Rodgers was expected to be a top choice for the Giants in 2025, but the four-time MVP could be moved to join a Minnesota team that was a game away from winning the NFC North and made the wild card in a rebuilding season.
The New York Giants extended Tommy DeVito

Not long after the report of Rodgers and Minnesota, the Giants announced they were re-signing Tommy DeVito to the roster.
“The New York Giants today re-signed quarterback Tommy DeVito,” wrote Dan Salomone with the Giants. “The 26-year-old New Jersey native originally joined the team as an undrafted rookie in 2023 and has started eight games, including six in his first season.
Overall, DeVito has completed 145 of 222 pass attempts (65.3 completion percentage) with eight touchdowns to three interceptions in 12 games. He has also rushed 44 times for 227 yards (5.2 yards per attempt) with another score. DeVito is 3-5 as a starter.”
The Giants have a solid backup on the roster regardless of what happens with Rodgers. New York will need to find another free agent quickly if Rodgers follows in Brett Farve’s footsteps by going out in Minnesota.
