Every year, when NFL teams are asked to trim their roster to the final 53, there are always a few eye-popping names that don't manage to stick. It's a tough time in the offseason because while they worked hard for the team they spent the summer with, sometimes it's simply a numbers game. Coaches, players, and fans alike may love these players.
Some get very attached because, at the end of the day, we're all rooting for the player's success. While they may leave our team, it's a chance for a new start, a new beginning, and a hope that their NFL dream doesn't die quite yet. That may be the fate for Giants QB4 Tommy DeVito, aka Tommy Cutlets.
While it's still early in the summer, preseason is creeping up on us faster than we may think, and with that comes cuts.
Tommy Devito might be an easy cut candidate for the Giants ahead of the 2025 season
The Giants are going to have a lot of decisions to make, and they won't be pleasant ones. DeVito didn't have a glamorous path to the league. Even in college, he struggled at times, transferring from Syracuse to Illinois. The Jersey boy went undrafted and was signed by the Giants as an undrafted free agent.
He went from UDFA to starter in 2023, defying the odds, and made himself a household name to the residents of New Jersey and New York. Tommy Cutlets was born, giving fans the excitement they hadn't had in years!
All good things must come to an end(maybe), though. After appearing in 9 games last season, DeVito only appeared in 3 this past season. Compared to the 1101 yards passing and 9 TDs he posted in 23, he only had 257 yards passing in 24.
After a complete remake of the QB room, including future Hall of Famer Russell Wilson, hopeful franchise QB Jaxson Dart, and solid veteran QB and locker room leader Jameis Winston were all added, carrying four QBs just doesn't make sense.
Unless he makes it through waivers and stays the Giants' practice squad QB, this summer could spell the end of Jersey's favorite QB Tommy Cutlets.
