New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll may have made himself the favorite to be the first NFL head coach to be fired this season during the G-Men’s 21-18 loss to the Washington Commanders.
Not only did the Giants lose to the Commanders, dropping their record to 0-2 — the tenth time in the last 12 years they’ve started 0-2 — but it could be argued that Brian Daboll was directly responsible for the Giants’ loss, as his decision to not have an insurance policy for injured kicker Graham Gano directly contributed to the Giants loss.
“Knowing your kicker wasn’t 100% and didn’t elevate one is all on Daboll. Inexcusable,” one popular post on X, formerly Twitter, reads.
Rex Ryan on the next generation of NFL quarterbacks
Rex Ryan says he's glad he's not coaching defense against the next generation of NFL quarterbacks.
Due to Gano’s injury, the Giants had to go for a two-point conversion after all three of their touchdowns and failed to convert any of them. Those three points wound up being the score they lost by.
Even during the game, when the Giants still had a chance to win, things weren’t pretty as rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers was seen blowing up on Daboll on the sidelines.
It didn’t get much better for Daboll after the game as he’s also being widely criticized for how he handled a totally fair question about his job security from a reporter during the postgame press conference. After answering the question, Daboll then stared the reporter down.
Things might get worse for the Giants before they get better as it’s already difficult to find a game on their schedule in which they’d be the betting favorite.
In Week 3, they’ll travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns before hosting the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4 (given the Cowboys’ hilarious habit of losing to any team at any given moment, maybe this is their best shot at a W).
Then, in October, the G-Men will host travel cross-country to take on the Seahawks, host the Bengals and Eagles in consecutive weeks, and then visit the Steelers.
