Giants Receive Blunt Message From NFL Community Amid QB Overhaul

The New York Giants made major changes at the quarterback position this offseason, but according to ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler, their efforts didn’t make much of an impact in the eyes of the rest of the NFL community.

Fowler released his annual top 10 quarterback ranking on July 14, which is solely based on the results of a leaguewide survey polling “league executives, coaches and scouts,” and is in no way the insider’s opinion.

And for another year, despite general manager Joe Schoen’s QB overhaul, the Giants came up empty.

Not only did the combination of Russell Wilson, Jaxson Dart and Jameis Winston not break the NFL top 10 — which is not surprising in the slightest — but they were also absent from the “honorable mention” section, and all three apparently failed to receive a single top 10 vote around the league.

At the way bottom of the ranking, Fowler notes quarterbacks who earned at least one top 10 vote, even if they didn’t receive enough to be considered honorable mentions. This year’s non-top 10 or honorable mention vote-getters were Kyler Murray, Brock Purdy, Dak Prescott, Aaron Rodgers, Tua Tagovailoa, and Bo Nix.

But there were no tallies for Wilson, Dart or Winston.

While many NYG fans are likely reading this thinking, “duh,” this poll serves as a blunt reminder to the Giants organization that, despite internal beliefs of improvement, they still have not done enough at the quarterback position. At least, according to opposing coaches, executives and scouts around the league.

Can Russell Wilson & Giants’ QB Room Prove the Rest of the NFL Wrong?

The results of this NFL QB survey obviously aren’t ideal, but at the end of the day, they are based on the opinions of peers.

There’s no rule that just because Wilson isn’t ranked top 10, he’s not allowed to put together a top 10 season and prove everyone wrong. So, if there’s a silver lining in this, it’s that you hope the Giants’ QBs use it as motivation.

Going one step further, each member of this Giants’ quarterback room was passed on by other teams.

Wilson and Winston garnered very little interest in free agency despite their past accomplishments. Dart had top 15 draft hype, but fell to the back half of round one. And fourth-stringer Tommy DeVito originally went undrafted, so all 32 teams passed on him in 2023.

Perhaps, that theme can become the calling card of this NYG QB group in 2025. The cast-offs, or the overlooked.

However you want to phrase it, this Giants’ quarterback room embodies it, and the next step is to harness that disrespect and do some damage.

Giants Hoping Jaxson Dart Can Break This Ranking Trend in 2026 or 2027

In all likelihood, Wilson is just a one-year placeholder and stopgap for the Giants. Even if he turns back the clocks and puts together a ridiculous season, he could end up leaving in free agency as the Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll look to prove that they can develop Dart into a franchise QB.

Based on that theory, Dart will be the Giants’ starting quarterback in 2026, and while he may not get many top 10 votes heading into his first full season as a QB1, the hope is that he’ll finally break this negative trend heading into the 2027 campaign.

If Dart is getting top 10 NFL QB votes from peers at that point in his career, that likely means he’s panned out as a prospect, and that’s basically the No. 1 goal for Schoen and Daboll right now.

Solve the quarterback problem, and the rest will follow. But first, Jaxson Dart must prove he’s the player fans have been waiting for.
