The New York Giants will have at least one quarterback on their roster entering the new league year, just not the one most fans hoped for.
Per NFL Media's Mike Garafolo, the Giants have re-signed third-string signal-caller Tommy DeVito.
The New Jersey native and his Italian heritage-inspired touchdown celebration became a fan favorite in 2023 when he won three consecutive games for the team in then-starter Daniel Jones' absence due to injury.
"He’s a local legend around here," head coach Brian Daboll told reporters in 2023 when DeVito displayed his flashes of brilliance.
However, fans quickly soured on his 15 minutes of fame when he couldn't consistently play like a starter, ultimately costing the team a top draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
DeVito, 26, was an undrafted free agent out of Illinois. He has recorded 1,358 passing yards and nine total touchdowns in two seasons with the Giants.
After Jones was released in late November 2024, DeVito split passing duties with backup Drew Lock. "Tommy Cutlets" started just two games, both losses, and failed to find the endzone each time.
New York is expected to draft a rookie QB in the 2025 NFL Draft, but it has also been linked to impending veteran free agent Aaron Rodgers to reboot its stagnant offense.
That means DeVito will likely return to his usual third-string role next season and serve as an emergency option for Daboll.
Fans probably won't see much of him on the field at MetLife Stadium in 2025. And if they do, then something has gone wrong...again.
