Could the New York Giants sign Keenan Allen?
The New York Giants are trying to look ahead after a treacherous 3-14 season which featured one of the NFL's worst offenses. The Giants ranked 30th in yards per game with a 294.8 mark and 31st in points per game, averaging just 16.1, less than cross-town No. 4 option Mikal Bridges, who averaged 17.6 points per game for the New York Knicks this season.
The Giants have made strides to address the offense this offseason, signing Russell Wilson to a one-year, $10.5 million contract and drafting Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart with the No. 25 pick.
The Giants' offensive additions may not be done, as Alex Kay of Bleacher Report penned the Giants as the ideal landing spot for free agent wideout Keenan Allen.
"Keenan Allen fits the bill as a proven receiver with a long history of production throughout his decorated NFL career. ... Whether he ends up establishing a potent veteran battery with Wilson or serves as a safety net for the developing Dart, Allen should be able to carve out a meaningful role working as the Giants' No. 2 option behind (Malik) Nabers," Kay wrote.
Allen is a six-time Pro Bowler fresh off celebrating his 33rd birthday. Allen is coming off a bit of a down year in his sole season with the Chicago Bears, hauling in just 70 catches for 744 yards, but still managing to find the end zone seven times. The year prior, Allen had 108 catches for 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns.
Allen has crossed the 1,000 yard mark in six of his 12 NFL seasons, and has tallied 66 touchdowns in his career. Allen has been paid handsomely for his production, making over $133 million in career earnings. The Giants wouldn't have to pay too hefty of a price tag for Allen, as Spotrac places his market value at just $11.1 million.
Allen would be an immediate upgrade for the WR2 spot, as the second-leading receiver for the Giants was Wan'Dale Robinson, who had 699 yards and three touchdowns on 93 receptions, averaging just 7.5 yards-per-reception. Robinson was targeted 140 times in 17 games last season.
