Giants pessimism keeps on coming as NFL analyst predicts huge QB regression

The New York Giants were so fed up with the poor quarterback play from the Daniel Jones era that they brought in three new passers ahead of the 2025 season, signing two veteran free agents in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston while spending a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on Jaxson Dart.

The plan to begin the season is to start Wilson, use Winston as the backup, and let Dart marinate as a backup. However, some analysts believe that no matter what the Giants do, chaos is sure to follow.

NFL.com's Kevin Patra believes that both Wilson and Winston will have worse seasons with the Giants than they did in their previous stops in Cleveland and Pittsburgh, citing Wilson's poor play under pressure and Winston's classic turnover issues.

Patra is one of many who believe the combination of these two substandard quarterbacks and a schedule that is as daunting as possible could eventually force young starlet Dart into the starting lineup sooner than anyone expected he would.

NFL analyst believes Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston will struggle with Giants

Wilson is still an effective starter in this league who can rip off big plays without turning the ball over, but age is starting to take its toll. Wilson never had the most explosive arm in terms of raw power, and with his trademark mobility being sapped by age, he is taking some very bad sacks at inopportune times.

Winston's 2024 season with the Browns is who he always has been. The former Buccaneers No. 1 pick is going to make some of the prettiest throws you'll ever see, but he is such a high-variance player that his turnover problems will prevent him from reaching his full potential.

While whoever is under center will have the luxury of throwing to Malik Nabers and working with an offensive coach in Brian Daboll, the Giants' offensive line outside of left tackle Andrew Thomas is incredibly uninspiring. Outside of Nabers, Darius Slayton may not strike fear into opposing teams as a secondary option.

Dart is the future of this team, which means it will be very unlikely that he gets Jordan Love'd and stuck as an inactive player on the bench for a few years. With some offensive questions and a brutal schedule coming up, it's not crazy to be a bit pessimistic about what Wilson and Winston will do this season.
