The New York Giants have moved on from the Daniel Jones era, but despite that monumental decision the quarterback position remains the biggest question mark for the franchise moving forward.
Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock showed over the past two weeks, respectively, that they aren't long-term solutions. The Giants will have limited options in free agency, which means the 2025 NFL draft is almost certainly the path the team will take to address the game's most important position.
Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report predicted on Wednesday, Nov. 27, that New York will select Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders come April. If the draft were held today, the Giants would select No. 2 overall.
"The polished passer out of Colorado is widely considered to be a first-round prospect and could wind up going off the board in the top three," Gagnon wrote. "The highest ceiling belongs to Sanders, and the Giants must know it's time to take a big swing."
New York took a massive swing on Jones by extending him on a four-year, $160 million deal in March 2023, but checked that swing just days ago when deciding to release the six-year pro and go in an entirely different direction.
Jones has since signed a deal to finish the 2024 season as the backup to Sam Darnold with the Minnesota Vikings before hitting the free agent market in March 2025.
