The New York Giants added Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston to their quarterback room during the offseason, perhaps taking them out of the running for a quarterback with the third overall pick.
However, if the Giants believe there's a quarterback available for them later in the first round, and want to get creative even in the second round, somebody like Jaxson Dart could make sense for them.
According to a report for Connor Hughes of SNY, there's now talk about the Giants potentially trading up for Jackson Dart on a Thursday. You added that the team isn't expected to take Sanders with the third pick, but Dart could be an option.
“Jaxson Dart is a name to watch for the #Giants as a trade-up option on Thursday. Sources I touched base with said he’s someone Brian Daboll is high on — most out of QBs other than Cam Ward. Among qualities Daboll values in QBs is toughness. Dart has that.
“Giants won’t be alone in QB pursuit, though. Matter of how aggressive they want to be. There’s not much out there right now connecting Shedeur Sanders to Giants. That hype has cooled dramatically from where it was in December,” Hughes wrote.
During his career at Ole Miss, Dart was an above-average player. However, there were times when he struggled, and some question whether he has the talent to be a legitimate NFL quarterback.
In the biggest games of the year for Ole Miss, he threw for just 199 yards against Georgia, a concerning sign, given that it was the best defense he played all year.
However, he still managed to throw for 4,279 yards and 29 touchdowns, posting an 86.3 QBR, which ranked fourth in college football.
