Giants cut ties with former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver

The New York Giants have cut former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Miles Boykin from their practice squad. Just days after signing him back to the practice squad after releasing him, Boykin is now a free agent, and the Steelers could be interested. After all, they still do need a gunner, though Ben Skowronek, who is on the Steelers’ practice squad, is someone that the team likes in a special teams role.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Philadelphia Eagles, Aug. 22, 2019

Boykin, the 2019 third-round pick for the Baltimore Ravens out of Notre Dame, spent the last two years with the Steelers on their active roster. He doubled as an excellent gunner and special teams player while aiding as a blocker in obvious run situations. The Steelers did not use him much in obvious passing situations, instead opting to roster six wide receivers and use Boykin in other situations.

Boykin started his career for the first three years of his career with the Ravens, but after failing to produce his excellent testing numbers beyond speical teams, the Ravens moved on from Boykin, allowing him to sign with the Steelers.

However, the Steelers did not bring Boykin back this offseason, instead opting to sign outside free agents. Boykin signed a one-year deal with the Giants as a result, and competed for a roster spot, but did not make the final roster.
