Abdul Carter and Shedeur Sanders may not have been drafted to the same team, but they share a commonality from the 2025 NFL Draft.
One of the biggest stories stemming from the NFL draft weekend was the prank call to quarterback Sanders before he was eventually selected by the Cleveland Browns.
It turns out there were a handful of other prospects who also received prank calls, including Carter before the New York Giants grabbed him at No. 3 overall.
Carter received a prank call that the Jacksonville Jaguars were going to take him at No. 2 overall after trading up with the Browns, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
"The pranks keep coming: it turns out that Abdul Carter also got a prank call during the second pick in which the caller said he was from the Jaguars and they were going to select him with the No. 2 overall pick. 'It’s unfortunate that these private numbers are getting to the people making the prank calls,' said Carter’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus. 'Abdul and I knew it was bs and didn’t even tell his family about the call.' Moments later, Carter got the real call from the Giants, the team that selected him third overall," Schefter wrote.
In reality, the Jaguars took Colorado star Travis Hunter after trading up, and the Giants landed Carter with the next selection.
It was revealed that the son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich was involved in the prank call to Sanders. Though the Falcons did not discipline Ulbrich, the NFL fined Atlanta $250,000 and the defensive coordinator $100,000.
