Former Steelers safety urges Mike Tomlin to think about leaving Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made it loud and clear they will not move on from head coach Mike Tomlin. It is not surprising, as Tomlin just signed a new extension to remain with the team through 2027 that is worth up $50 million across that span. However, could Tomlin choose to leave himself?

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New York Giants

Former Steelers safety Ryan Clark, who does not understand moving on from Tomlin from the team’s perspective, urged Tomlin to at least ‘look into’ the idea of leaving the Steelers considering the circumstances in the organization.

"Coach Tomlin should look into whether or not his voice is better suited somewhere else,” Clark said to TMZ. “Whether or not the cache that he will carry from what he’s done in Pittsburgh will help another locker room more than it’s helping the locker room in Pittsburgh. Andy Reid’s voice seemed to have lost a little steam in Philadelphia that was picked up in Kansas City.”

This has been the commonality brought up in many of the arguments around Tomlin and the Steelers. While Tomlin is clearly a good coach, is he the right coach for the Steelers? The trends and stats certainly do not show that, and Tomlin’s six game postseason losing streak with some all-time bad defensive performances continue to crop up time and time again.

Until some significant changes are put in place, either the Steelers will be stuck in neutral or Tomlin will have to find a new edge that gets him over the top in this era of football.
