The Kansas City Chiefs are doing their homework on potential pass rushing help in the 2025 NFL Draft class, and the latest name to be placed on the prospective choices board is USC edge rusher Jamil Muhammad.
NFL reporter Aaron Wilson cited the Chiefs' interest in a recent post, saying they were among a number of teams also indicating an interest in Muhammad's pro potential. That list also included fellow AFC West rivals like the L.A. Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders along with the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions.
Muhammad enters the NFL as a redshirt senior with three seasons of experience at Georgia State before transferring to the Trojans for his final two years of eligibility.
The Chiefs continue to check out potential additions to the defensive line.
In his first year at USC (2023), Muhammad turned heads with a team-leading 6.5 sacks along with 10 tackles for a loss, 4 hurries, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 interception in 12 starts. Unfortunately for Muhammad's draft stock, his production fell off in '24. In 10 starts (and 13 appearances), Muhammad registered a single sack and only 1.5 tackles for a loss.
What should help Muhammad's draft stock is his experience on special teams and a background scouts will love as a strong scholar who was actually a former quarterback in high school. The downside is that his athletic profile is suspect, at least when looking at his RAS profile (see below).

The lack of production in his final season and the disconcerting testing metrics could leave Muhammad waiting until after the 2025 NFL Draft before getting a call. However, if the Chiefs have reason to believe that he could find a greater ceiling given his past success in '23, or that he could be a valuable role player, Muhammad could be a name to know in rookie mini-camp.
