Former NFL QB takes outrageous swing at Giants’ 2025 expectations

There's plenty of optimism about the New York Giants entering the 2025 season. General manager Joe Schoen and Big Blue's front office had an impressive offseason. The team upgraded every position via free agency and the NFL Draft, leaving Giants fans hopeful for the future.

The G-Men upgraded their quarterback room with the additions of veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, and first-round pick Jaxson Dart. They added to their offense by re-signing wide receiver Darius Slayton and bringing in rookie running back Cam Skattebo, with a sprinkle of undrafted free agent wide receivers who could crack the roster.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Giants added rookie edge rusher Abdul Carter with the third overall pick to their impressive front seven, consisting of Dexter Lawrence II, Brian Burns, and Kayvon Thibodeaux. Carter is the current favorite to win the DROY award and is expected to have an impactful rookie campaign.

Big Blue also strengthened their secondary during free agency, adding cornerback Paulson Adebo and safety Jevon Holland. New York had one of the worst secondaries in the league last year, so these additions should help their pass coverage unit.

With several additions on both sides of the ball and a roster built to win, many critics expect the Giants to be a much better team in 2025. The Giants won three games last season and finished with their worst record in team history, so there's legitimate hope they're better this year.

We can anticipate consequences if the Giants fail to win more than three games again. Fans might call for John Mara to hold those responsible for the team's struggles accountable, as Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll are both on the hot seat entering this year.

Chase Daniel believes the Giants need to make the playoffs in 2025

Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel, who now hosts The Facility on Fox Sports, believes that even if the Giants win eight to nine games but miss the playoffs with Wilson as their quarterback, they will clean house, resulting in Schoen and Daboll's firing. This was his bold take on what many would consider a wildly successful season:

"If you win eight, nine games with Russell Wilson—and you don't make the playoffs—you're getting fired. Everyone one of you: the front office—the owner's cleaning house—Daboll's out, Joe Schoen's out, everyone's out."

Daniel might not be wrong, but it seems very unlikely. The expectation should be to go back to the playoffs... but Daniel may have to consider how demanding the Giants' schedule is this year before going Looney Tunes.

Not only do the G-Men play in the toughest division in the NFL, consisting of the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders, and Dallas Cowboys, who they will have to each play twice, but they also play the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, and Detroit Lions.

Big Blue also has one less home game and a late bye week this year, which will come in Week 14. They'll have to play 13 straight games, with fatigue being a real factor as the season drags.

In a scenario where the Giants win eight or nine games but miss the playoffs in 2025, Schoen and Daboll should keep their jobs for at least another year. That would be a massive overachievement. Firing them after winning eight games would be ridiculous. Might as well have fired them last year if that's the case.

The Giants doubling their win total from last year should be enough for Daboll and Schoen to stick around East Rutherford. While Big Blue's future looks bright, the team has a lot of work left to do. You never know which teams could turn heads in 2025, and the Giants could shock several critics who may be sleeping on them.
