Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is not just one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL currently, but one of the best in league history. Every year, he figures out a way to up the ante and set a new record. He did that in 2024, leading the first offense to eclipse 4,000 passing yards and 3,000 rushing yards in the same season. Yet, that does not prevent some of the wildest takes you will ever hear from dropping.
Since he stepped foot into the league in 2018, Jackson has been criticized endlessly. Although he is a two-time MVP, he has heard it all and is used to it at this point in his career. But somehow it keeps getting worse. One former NFL general manager may have just unleashed the worst take of all.
Mike Tannenbaum was the general manager of the New York Jets from 2006 to 2012. No one is flawless, but someone with that kind of experience understands the game more than most.
When asked if Jackson is the most talented quarterback in the NFL, Tannenbaum disagreed, but his opinion on who that quarterback is raised eyebrows. His answer? Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love.
“I’m gonna go with the aforementioned Jordan Love as the most talented quarterback in the NFL,” Tannenbaum said. “If the four of us were starting a team today, I would take Jordan Love. I just think he’s a little bit bigger, I think he’s a little bit more talented, and I think throughout his career, when it’s all said and done, we’re gonna look back and say Jordan Love was one of the greatest players of this generation.”
This is no shot at Love. He has grown to be considered a borderline top 10 quarterback in the NFL and is an integral part of a competitive Packers team that is one of the best in the NFC. Still, he has not done enough to be deemed more talented than Jackson, let alone in that realm.
Love’s full potential has yet to be reached, as he is only going into his third year as Green Bay’s starter. He has the prototypical size for a quarterback, equipped with an insanely strong arm, but while he flashes elite arm talent, he has yet to display it for a full season. If he can put it all together, he can firmly place himself in that top 10. However, he is nowhere close to Jackson currently.
Jackson is coming off a career-best campaign and is somehow getting better at 28 years old. In 2024, he threw for 4,172 yards, 41 touchdowns, and just four interceptions. He also maintained his status as a top-tier rushing threat, gashing defenses for 915 yards on the ground.
What Jackson does cannot be taught, and he should be considered the most talented quarterback in the NFL. Sure, you can make a case for Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, or Joe Burrow, but Love has no place in this conversation just yet, and Tannenbaum’s take might take the cake for worst of all time.
