Daniel Jones parted ways with the New York Giants in November of 2024, so he’s long gone, but until now, he has been pretty tight-lipped about his split with the team. From the New York Giants, Jones went to the Minnesota Vikings‘ practice squad but didn’t see any playing time with the Vikings, who fell out of the playoffs right away.
Now, Jones is with the Colts and gearing up for a season where he’ll likely be starting, in the wake of their other main quarterback, Anthony Richardson. getting injured. Richardson suffered a sprained AC joint during the Colts’ organized team activities on Thursday, June 5. He actually had that same injury his rookie season and was unable to finish the season.
Now, Jones is finally speaking out about what it was like to cut ties with the Giants. He keeps things positive, but it’s easy to tell that it hurt.
Daniel Jones Comments on New York Giants
In a June 11 interview with Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, Jones says that he’s not holding “anything personal against anybody” in the Giants’ camp. He was with the team for nearly six years, though, so it was a long relationship and likely hurts that it ended the way that it did.
“Obviously it’s very competitive, you put your whole life into it, you’re very dedicated and committed to winning, to make sure it goes well on the field, playing at a high level, winning for your teammates, winning for the people in the organization, winning for the fans, and when it doesn’t work out yeah, it is certainly tough,” he told the outlet.
“Try not to hold any of that bitterness or hurt, hold anything personal against anybody, just knowing that’s gonna prevent you from the next step, from succeeding and learning what you need to learn wherever you are going next,” he added.
As Schwartz of the Post stated in the feature, “Being that Daniel Jones does possess real, human emotions, these feelings stirred within him. He did whatever he could to make sure he suppressed them. But they were there.”
Daniel Jones Expected to Start for the Colts, Reporter Hints
Due to Richardson’s injury, Jones will likely get to show his stuff again on the big stage and be the Colts’ starting quarterback.
“There’s seemingly a new sheriff in town,” Angela Moryan of WISH-TV stated after the injury news came out. “The Horseshoe prepares to kick off veteran minicamp on Tuesday with Daniel Jones taking the majority — if not all — the starting quarterback reps as Anthony Richardson is sidelined with a right shoulder injury.”
The two quarterbacks were expected to duke it out in competition for the starting position, but if Richardson is sidelined, the decision is likely made.
Jones was such a big part of the New York Giants for so long, so it’s suffice to say that the New York fanbase would like to see him succeed in the future, as long as it’s not against the Giants, of course.
