Trade rumors have swirled around the Las Vegas Raiders with the arrival of new head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek.
Cornerback Jack Jones was the first major piece of roster movement after he was waived, and more pieces from previous regimes could be on the way out soon. Quarterback Aidan O’Connell, tight end Michael Mayer and running back Zamir White have all touched the trade block at some point this offseason. Even stalwart offensive tackle Kolton Miller is a possibility to be moved due to his contract holdout.
Now, another former draft pick is at risk of being jettisoned by the new regime.
A new trade option for the Raiders has been floated around.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter made a list of players on rookie contracts that are at risk of being moved, with one of the most notable names being Raiders pass-rusher Tyree Wilson.
If Wilson does get moved, it would bring an end to a disappointing tenure in Las Vegas.
Despite being drafted seventh overall in 2023, Wilson has been slow to develop. In two seasons, Wilson currently has eight sacks on his career. For context, Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter was drafted two picks later, and he has 10.5 sacks as well as double Wilson’s tackles for loss (20 to eight, if you wish to keep score).
While Carroll and Spytek could look to move on from Wilson, it might not be the course of action to take right now.
Trading Wilson means the pass rush thins out behind Maxx Crosby and Malcolm Koonce, the latter of which is a free agent in 2026. The problem can easily be remedied by drafting Georgia edge rusher Jalon Walker with the sixth overall pick, but more pressing needs would make that a surprising outcome. With Wilson likely returning a Day Three pick in a trade, perhaps it is better to ride it out and keep some options in case of emergency.
With Wilson now on the table, the Raiders could be in for an interesting draft weekend.
