Rondo was originally arrested on Jan. 28 after a traffic stop. He was charged with marijuana and gun possession after a search was conducted per reports. He was set to face trial last month but reached a plea agreement beforehand. He had his marijuana charges dismissed a part of the deal but pled guilty to unlawful carrying of a handgun.

According to court records, Rondo paid $189 in court costs but had his six month jail sentence suspended. Instead, he will be on probation for six months as part of the deal.

Rondo played eight-plus seasons with the Celtics before the team traded him away to the Mavericks in 2014 in exchange for Jae Crowder, Brandan Wright, Jameer Nelson and multiple draft picks. The 37-year-old won two titles in his pro career including one with Boston back in 2008. He last played with the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2021-22 season. Rondo spent time with the current Celtics during training camp back in October 2023 as coach Joe Mazzulla invited former players to observe the team and reconnect during training camp.

Rondo has dealt with multiple run-ins with the law in addition to Tuesday’s plea, including having an emergency protective order against him by a judge in 2022 and again in 2023 by the same woman. Rondo underwent anger management class, counseling and a mental health evaluation before the first order was dismissed in 2022. The 2023 case ended in an agreed order.
