It’s been a busy week for Daniel Theis, formerly of the Boston Celtics.
Theis most recently played for the New Orleans Pelicans but was sent to the Oklahoma City Thunder on February 5.
Following that, he was waived by the team and his future looked uncertain.
But according to Donatas Urbonas, per Evan Sidery, Theis is now leaving the NBA and will join the EuroLeague.
Theis has committed to signing with AS Monaco after reportedly receiving interest from a few NBA teams and a more lucrative offer from other international teams.
It is important to note that the reports say that his deal with AS Monaco will likely include an NBA opt-out clause.
This is common with many people who play with the EuroLeague because it leaves the door open for a return to the NBA.
The 32-year-old big man has played for multiple teams during his seven years in the league.
He started with the Celtics and then moved on to the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers, and finally the Pelicans.
He also played as the starting center on the undefeated German team that scored a World Cup victory in 2023.
Theis is apparently close to some of the people managing AS Monaco, which influenced his choice to sign with them.
Even though he may have gotten a better deal from Panathinaikos, he was drawn to the management and teammates of AS Monaco.
Will we ever see Theis play in the NBA again?
He could have the chance to return, but it sounds like he is getting a deal he likes in the EuroLeague.
