Former Boston Celtics forward signs deal overseas

Oshae Brissett

Former Celtics forward Oshae Brissett will continue his pro career overseas after signing a deal with Maccabi Tel Aviv, according to the team. It is a two-year deal with the Israeli EuroLeague squad.

The 6-foot-7 forward was a member of the 2024 Boston title team but surprisingly turned down a player option to return to Boston for the 2024-25 season in hopes of finding a bigger role elsewhere. The gamble did not pay off for Brissett as he ended up sitting out the first half of the NBA season with no enticing offers arriving.

The 27-year-old has played for four NBA teams (Raptors, Pacers, Celtics, 76ers) over his six NBA seasons after going undrafted out of Syracuse in 2019. He was in and out of the rotation during his season in Boston, posting 3.7 points and 2.9 rebounds over 11.5 minutes per game but he struggled with his outside shot (27.3 percent) in the stint.

By going overseas, Brissett is likely to get the bigger opportunity he was seeking out last year at the NBA level.

“It’s great to bring a former NBA champion to Tel Aviv,” Maccabi Tel Aviv general manager Claudio Coldebella said in a team release announcing the signing. “From the beginning he was our first choice. He’s a player who fits our system and his teammates, who can play in various positions, and who, thanks to his athleticism, energy, and desire to compete, is always very useful in many aspects of the game. We can’t wait to welcome Oshae to the Maccabi family.”

Brissett will play alongside multiple former NBA players with Maccabi including Jaylen Hoard and Levi Randolph.
