Buffalo Bills cornerback Rasul Douglas has yet to find a home in free agency, but one analyst believes that's going to end soon.
Douglas, who played out the last year of his $21 million contract last season, spent a year-plus with the Bills after being traded to Buffalo from the Green Bay Packers in 2023.
Douglas was a revelation for the Bills in 2023 but he wasn't able to replicate that success in 2024. After giving up a completion rate of 51.3% and a passer rating of 38.6 in nine games for Buffalo in 2023, Douglas struggled in 2024 to the tune of a completion rate allowed of 72.9% and a passer rating of 122.0.
While a reunion with the Bills remains a possibility, ESPN's Matt Bowen has predicted that Douglas will ultimately land with the Seattle Seahawks in free agency.
"In Seattle, Douglas would compete with Josh Jobe for the No. 3 corner spot and provide overall depth in a secondary that likes to mix zone coverage (Cover 2 and Cover 3) with its man schemes," Bowen wrote.
"Douglas is a physical corner with the length to disrupt the ball in the air and the willingness to set an edge against the run (five tackles for loss last season). He has the necessary skills to play zone coverage, and he uses his 6-foot-2 frame to challenge receivers on the perimeter. Douglas returned one of his five interceptions for a touchdown in 2023, and he had five pass breakups last season."
Douglas and Seattle have shown interest in one another recently, as NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that the two sides met on May 13, so there's plenty of logic in making this prediction.
The Seahawks are currently set at two cornerback spots with Devon Witherspoon in the slot and Riq Woolen on the outside, but as Bowen points out, Jobe is anything but a sure thing to start on the other side opposite Woolen.
Jobe has posted strong coverage stats over the past two years, giving up completion rates of 53.8% and 56%, and passer ratings of 88.0 and 76.6, but he has started just nine games in that span.
Adding Douglas would give the Seahawks a much-needed experienced option who could either start if he beats out Jobe, or provide stellar depth.
Douglas also offers some versatility, as he has experience playing in the slot and outside, although the vast majority of his snaps have come on the boundary.
The Seahawks are sitting with $31.2 million in cap space currently, so affording Douglas won't be a problem at all.
