Fantasy Alert: Jason Brownlee Impresses Jets, 'Could Be a Surprise,' Says NFL Insider

New York Jets wide receiver Jason Brownlee has "impressed" early into the NFL offseason, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

Cimini wrote the second-year pass-catcher "could be a surprise in the receiving corps."

Granted, Brownlee seemingly had an encouraging training camp leading up to the 2023 season as well.

The 25-year-old was ultimately a non-factor in the offense. In seven appearances, he caught five passes for 56 yards and one touchdown.

The competition within the passing game has gotten stiffer as well. New York signed Mike Williams and used a third-round draft pick on Malachi Corley. Williams is coming off a season-ending torn ACL but was a dynamic wideout when healthy for the Los Angeles Chargers. Corley had 3,035 receiving yards and 29 touchdowns in his four years at Western Kentucky.

Still, the opportunity for a breakout candidate his there. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is back healthy, and Garrett Wilson is the only receiver without an obvious question mark.

Williams may not be the same player following his torn ACL. Corley is unproven in the NFL until he shows otherwise. Allen Lazard's 2023 production fell well short of expectations. Xavier Gipson was likewise anonymous for the most part.

Maybe this is the year when Brownlee translates a strong offseason into tangible returns on the field.
