Fans fear betrayal as beloved former Commanders star linked with bitter rival

The long-standing rivalry between the Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys took a seismic shift last season. Head coach Dan Quinn's squad flipped the script, reaching the NFC Championship game in Year 1 of this ambitious project as their bitter adversaries didn't make the playoffs. This is a trend fans hope will continue long into the future.

Dallas is quietly making moves to keep pace with the Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles within the NFC East. One NFL analyst believes they should strengthen their ranks further with a beloved ex-Washington star.

NFL analyst touts former Commanders CB Kendal Fuller to the Cowboys

Moe Moton from The Bleacher Report thought signing free-agent cornerback Kendall Fuller is the one move that the Cowboys must make before Week 1. The analyst highlighted Dallas' injury issues within the secondary and the veteran's dependability as reasons why this should be a no-brainer if the money works for all parties.

Team executive vice president Stephen Jones said, "There's a good chance" cornerback Trevon Diggs misses the beginning of the campaign as he recovers from knee surgery. Rookie third-rounder Shavon Revel Jr. is working his way back from a torn ACL. Dallas lost slot cornerback Jourdan Lewis in free agency. Dallas can bring in [Kendall] Fuller to shore up its pass coverage. He can line up outside to fill in for Diggs and transition into the slot if none of the young defensive backs impress in nickel duties. The 30-year-old has extensive experience playing on the boundary and as a nickelback.Moe Moton

Fuller had two separate spells in Washington but wasn't brought back by general manager Adam Peters last year. He wasn't on the proverbial scrap heap for long, signing for the Miami Dolphins. Injuries prevented him from making a considerable impact, which made the former Virginia star an inevitable salary-cap casualty this offseason.

Some fans were clamoring for Washington to bring Fuller back again earlier this offseason. Peters had other ideas, signing two-time Super Bowl winner Jonathan Jones and spending the No. 61 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft on Trey Amos. They now have five capable corners who can accumulate starting reps and perform well. If four-time Pro Bowler Marshon Lattimore bounces back, this will become a position of strength.

As for Fuller? He'll be eager to just get on an NFL roster at this stage. Previous connections to Washington won't count for much when it comes to money. That's the great equalizer across the league, and most of the time, players don't care where it comes from.

Just so long as it arrives.
