Things are going south for the Atlanta Falcons. Are they still in first place in the NFC South? Yes. But the momentum has started to slow down with Kirk Cousins under center on the team. The Falcons should heavily consider making a change at quarterback and go with the younger option in Michael Penix Jr by benching Cousins.

This move benefits the Falcons as they move towards their future at the position in Penix and get to start his development. In doing so though, the trust with Cousins will be fully lost, and a trade would be necessary.

That team that needs to trade for Cousins is the Miami Dolphins.

Coming off a loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving, Tua Tagovailoa put up a mediocre performance. The Dolphins lost 30-17, and Tagovailoa looked incapable of leading the offense until they were down 27-3. Tagovailoa improved in the second half to string together 15 points, but it was too late at that point. Tagovailoa’s now 0-8 in games below 40 degrees, which doesn’t bode well for potential playoff contention. Tagovailoa is a good quarterback, but he is not the franchise one.

With McDaniel’s seat in Miami getting hot, he doesn’t have time to waste and needs to make a move to ensure the production of the team exceeds what they have put out. They still need a younger, franchise quarterback, but need a bridge quarterback in the meantime to maximize the potential of the team. That is where Cousins comes into play.

He provides more experience and the capabilities to handle a McDaniel style offense, coming from playing for the Minnesota Vikings before the Falcons. Cousins has been consistent, putting up 43,328 yards and 292 touchdowns over his career with 2,807 yards and 17 touchdowns coming from this season. Cousins plays with resilience, and would be able to operate the offense with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle to its fullest potential with reading defenses better and limiting errors.
