Falcons Place All-Pro On IR 5 Days After Signing Him - The Spun

Jakeem Grant suffered another health setback in his first week with the Atlanta Falcons.

The wide receiver and return specialist, who signed with Atlanta on Saturday, went on the reserve/injured list Thursday. Team reporter Terrin Waack revealed the unfortunate development without any details on Grant's injury.

Grant earned a Pro Bowl invite and his second straight second-team All-Pro distinction with the Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears in 2021. He notched his sixth career special teams score when returning a punt 97 yards for a touchdown.

In six seasons, Grant has tallied 100 catches for 1,140 yards and seven receiving touchdowns. The former sixth-round pick also scored a rushing touchdown in one of his 70 games with the Dolphins.

However, Grant hasn't played in each of the last two seasons. The 5-foot-6 playmaker ruptured his Achilles tendon in August 2022 and suffered a season-ending patellar tear right before the 2023 regular season began.

Unfortunately, Grant appears to have suffered another significant August injury while attempting an NFL comeback. He had joined the Falcons for his first practice reps on Monday.

The 31-year-old isn't the only Falcons player hurt before Week 1. They recently placed fellow wide receiver Rondale Moore on the IR with a season-ending knee injury. Linebacker Bralen Trice and defensive back Harrison Hand are also on the IR.
