While most of the offseason chatter has focused on Kirk Cousins, there has also been growing discussion about the future of Kyle Pitts and the possibility of a trade. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler believes that Pitts could be open to a move if the right deal presents itself.
“I don't think it's a situation where [the Falcons] are aggressively shopping [Pitts],” Fowler said. “But it appears, talking to some other teams, they think Atlanta is at least open to the possibility and Pitts might be as well. I'm told he loves Atlanta, this is not a situation where he's requesting a trade, but if he has a chance to go to maybe a better offense where he's more featured.”
Greyson Freestone of Blogging Dirty emphasized at the beginning of July that Pitts is irreplaceable.
“Kyle Pitts is someone the Falcons can't replace for 2025. They have no receiving threat without him, and there aren't any outside options to fill his spot. The Falcons do not want a hole at any position as they enter the season with an inexperienced quarterback in Michael Penix Jr,” Freestone wrote.
However, Freestone also acknowledged that Pitts may be in a vulnerable position and ultimately replaceable after this season.
“The reasoning is simple: if he has another disappointing season, the Falcons will let him walk; if he has a monster season, the Falcons won't (and shouldn't) get into an inevitable bidding war,” he wrote.
The Falcons may also be exploring new ways to maximize Pitts’ potential. Atlanta Falcons reporter Will McFadden shared an intriguing update from training camp regarding the tight end’s usage.
“Kyle Pitts has mostly been working with the Falcons WRs so far in practice, not with the TEs,” McFadden wrote.
While Pitts typically moves around during games, seeing him consistently with the wide receivers in positional drills raises questions. Perhaps the Falcons want to evaluate how he looks out wide — or perhaps, it's simply day one of camp and nothing more.
