Excitement returns to Broncos Country, and it feels good

Good morning, Broncos Country!

Broncos vs. Browns: Live updates and highlights from the NFL Week 13 game

It feels good to feel excited about the Denver Broncos again.

For the first time in almost 10 years.

And now comes the biggest game for the Broncos since Super Bowl 50. Win today’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, and Denver is all but in the AFC Playoffs. The Broncos won’t officially qualify for the playoffs, but they’ll unofficially be in.

Along with that excitement comes confidence. As I told Adam Malnati on the Broncos Odds & Endzones podcast this week, Denver has a legitimate path to 12 wins. But first things first, the Broncos have to take care of business today.

At the same time, as Adam said on the podcast, he feels the effects of the last near-decade in feeling that confidence. As if it’s foreign since it’s been so long to feel confident in this team again. To have them as the favorites in a big game. Or, as I described, the PTSD of the last nine years.

Yet, here we are.

The biggest game in Broncos Country in almost 10 years.

It really does feel good to feel excited about the Broncos again. I don’t want to say Denver is back, but this franchise is closer than it’s been since Peyton Manning retired.

As Broncos head coach Sean Payton said to the Denver media this week about whether he discusses with the team what needs to happen to make the playoffs, and how to block out the noise:

“At the right time, I might just say, ‘Hey, this is where we’re at, this is what we’re looking at.’ It’s a group that I think understands that.

“I can’t control it for the players. I don’t pay attention to it. We don’t really have time. It’s the coverage of our game. Six weeks ago, I’d always kind of roll my eyes, but now you get into four weeks left for all these teams, and each team knows exactly where they’re at and what they need to do, ourselves included.”
