Former USC quarterback Sam Darnold is one of the richest free agent signings for the 2025 offseason. But he's predicted to receive huge competition ahead of training camp with the Seattle Seahawks.
Darnold, Seattle's newest $100.5 million QB, isn't called a lock to start every game for the Seahawks. ESPN NFL draft analyst Matt Miller revealed to "keep an eye on" Texas star Quinn Ewers early in the upcoming April draft.
"The Sam Darnold redemption story is great. But there's a chance he doesn't maintain the level of success he had in 2024 now that he doesn't have Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell calling the plays and a great receiver duo supporting him," Miller began.
But there's added fuel for Miller's reasonings behind Seattle rolling with a QB during draft weekend. Miller took a look at his contract.
"And given the short term of his contract (three years) and large payout in Year 1, the Seahawks could still look to add at the position," Miller said. "OK, maybe not quite as early as the Falcons did last year by taking Michael Penix Jr. at No. 8 after signing Kirk Cousins, but the idea is the same. I'd keep an eye on Texas' Quinn Ewers on Day 2, when Seattle has four total selections."
Darnold is fresh off an epic Pro Bowl season. Seattle gives him a new leading target in former first rounder Jaxon Smith-Njigba to throw to. The 'Hawks also added old rival Cooper Kupp via free agency to bolster the WR room.
But now, Miller isn't ruling out Seattle adding needed QB help immediately. Even in the form of a College Football Playoff QB who once got labeled first round material.
