With the 2025 NFL draft a little over two weeks away, eyes are on the Giants as general manager Joe Schoen decides what to do with the No. 3 overall pick.
Many pre-draft projection scenarios have New York landing Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who profiles as one of the top options at the position in this draft class.
Colorado’s pro day was on Friday, at which a Giants contingent was in attendance.
One former NFL scout wasn’t impressed by Sanders’ performance.
Daniel Kelly, who previously served as a scout for the Jets, shared his criticism of Sanders on X. The former scout called Sanders’ arm strength “average” and noted that the QB telegraphed to defensive backs when and where he’s throwing.
“There was nothing and I mean nothing special, elite or dominant looking at his Pro Day that was set up in absolute ideal conditions for him,” Kelly wrote. “He mostly made short throws and put too much air under his deep throws. I have an undraftable free agent grade on him. He’s a practice squad level talent with a Hall of Fame last name. My dream is to get a second chance in the NFL and on my resume, I am advising teams not to select him in rounds 1-7 in the 2025 NFL Draft.”
Considering Kelly’s history of evaluation of Sanders, this take is not all that surprising. But Sanders is expected to be a first-round pick and could very likely be the Giants’ QB of the future.
Sanders was 13-11 at Colorado, throwing 7,364 yards for 64 touchdowns and 13 interceptions with a 71.8% completion percentage.
