ESPN insiders suggests Vikings make a bold trade before training camp

All offseason, the tackle of the offseason for the Vikings has centered around the quarterback room for the team.

It started with the idea of the team rolling things back with Sam Darnold, who eventually signed with the Seahawks. They were rolling ahead with J.J. McCarthy before rumblings of Aaron Rodgers being signed caused some turbulence. That was then squashed, and signs pointed back to McCarthy before now, where the idea of adding another veteran quarterback is now being floated once again.

This time, it comes from multiple ESPN insiders as they discuss a new home for former Vikings starting quarterback Kirk Cousins.

In a piece regarding trade ideas for several big stars on the block, Dan Graziano and Seth Walder suggest the team bring back their former starter. Graziano suggests the Vikings give up a fifth—and seventh-round draft pick for him to backup J.J. McCarthy. Meanwhile, Walder thinks a swap of Howell for Cousins should do the trick.

Neither move makes too much sense for the team at this point.

The Vikings traded for former Commanders starting quarterback Sam Howell during April's NFL Draft. They wanted an experienced starter behind McCarthy and got one relatively cheap in the process. Sending away more capital or adding one that is going to cost more on the books doesn't seem like a move that Kwesi Adofo-Mensah would make at this point.
