Oilers general manager Stan Bowman is expected to announce some changes to the team's front office after news leaked that pro scout and former Oilers forward Zack Kassian was fired from his new role after just one season.
The Edmonton Oilers have proven to be a formidable opponent in the playoffs over the past two seasons, but they just haven't been quite good enough to win a Stanley Cup.
As a result, Stan Bowman and the rest of the front office are trying to shake things up just enough to make a difference.
The on-ice roster will largely be the same next season, as none of the Oiler's biggest names are set to enter free agency.
However, there will be some differences, especially up front after Evander Kane got traded to the Vancouver Canucks.
That being said, perhaps the bigger moves will happen behind the scenes.
According to numerous reports, the team has fired pro scout Zack Kassian after just one season with the team in that role.
Stan Bowman is expected to make the official announcement in the coming days, as well as other changes to the front office.
Kassian played in 661 career NHL games, 412 of which came with the Oilers.
He scored 55 goals and 135 points while playing in Edmonton, but was better known for laying the body on his opponents, as he racked up 1000 hits with the Oilers and over 1300 overall in his career.
He also earned his fair share of penalty minutes with more than 500 coming during his tenure in Edmonton.
Kassian was a fan-favorite during his time with the Oilers and was a welcome addition to the organization's front office once his playing career was over.
However, it appears as though Stan Bowman was not please with his quality of work in his first season, or perhaps he is just trying to clear space for someone with more experience.
