At one point this offseason, there was a belief that Philadelphia Eagles standout Dallas Goedert had played his final game with the organization. The former second-round tight end, who carried a cap hit of over $11 million, had struggled with injuries over the last few years.
The money didn't match the level of production Philly had expected.
Despite all the twists and turns this offseason brought, however, Goedert and the team found a way to reach an agreement ... one that keeps him with the Eagles for the 2025 season.
As part of the new deal, Goedert took a pay cut to remain with Philly for the final year of his contract.
It's a safe bet that 2025 will officially be his final year with the organization now more than ever.
But that doesn't mean the veteran is bothered about that reality. He's happy to be a part of the team's push for a repeat championship this season.
It's a big reason he was willing to take a lesser deal.
"When I got drafted a year after they won the Super Bowl, I was able to experience the fun parts of a Super Bowl the year after winning the Super Bowl," Goedert said on ESPN's "NFL Live," as transcribed by NFL.com's Nick Shook. "After we won and the opportunity to run it back again to see the banner drop, it just wouldn't have felt -- it would have felt I was missing on a lot not being there to see all that stuff."
Philadelphia has used Goedert, along with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, as an essential piece in its passing offense.
The trio has been one of the best in football over the last few years.
If Goedert can stay healthy, he can make his final year in Philly one for the record books. At the very least, the Eagles should be able to maintain their title as a Super Bowl contender with their star pass catcher.
