After locking down tight end Dallas Goedert for at least one more year, Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles have a chance to bolster their Super Bowl-caliber roster even further.
All-Pro safety Justin Simmons is still in the market for a new home, and according to NFL Network's Brian Baldinger, he would like to join the Eagles.
"He wants to come to Philadelphia," NFL Media's Brian Baldinger said of Simmons this week. "He wants to be there. ... Just find him a house in South Jersey. He's gonna be here."
This comes as no surprise considering Simmons wasn't shy about discussing his interest in reuniting with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and why it makes so much sense during an interview with 'Up and Adams' with Kay Adams last month.
“It really does. As honest as I can be, a lot of it, too, going back to your question earlier about Atlanta, there was a lot of new, right? There was a new system, there’s a new way to do it,” Simmons said. "Going to Philly with Vic, you know exactly what you’re getting out of me, and I know exactly what I’m getting out of them. Because I’ve been in the system. I still have a ways to go to mastering it, but there are some things and nuances that I know that Vic likes, that I know that Christian Parker likes. I think I could really help in that area.
“Obviously, them moving on from C.J. (Gardner-Johnson) and what he’s poured into that city, there is big shoes to fill. But I love what they have going on with (Reed) Blankenship and the rest of the supporting cast there. So I don’t know. It’s interesting. I’m excited to see what happens.”
Simmons played under Fangio and Eagles secondary coach Christian Parker during their time together in Denver.
While Simmons is no longer the All-Pro he once was when he was coached by Fangio and Parker, he knows how their system operates, and he is still an experienced veteran that they could use opposite Reed Blankenship.
Following eight years in Denver, Simmons joined the Atlanta Falcons last August and logged 62 total tackles (36 solo) and seven passes defended with two interceptions (his fewest since 2017) through 16 games.
The Eagles did select a safety, Andrew Makuba, in the second round of this year's draft, but that doesn't mean they won't be interested in adding more veteran presence to their young secondary if the price is right.
