As beautiful as the City of Brotherly Love is, there are occasionally misses . We'd never disrespect the Rocky Statue. Heck, that may as well be a national treasure, but there are times when we wonder why a fictional boxer got a statue more than 30 years before Smoking Joe Frazier did. Then, there are our Philadelphia Eagles and the disrespect the NFL sometimes throws their way.
The Birds are seemingly always snubbed in some form or fashion. Heck, just look at the 2022 NFL season.
Nick Sirianni should have been awarded the Coach of the Year Trophy. He wasn't... They gave it to a third-place finisher in the NFC East, Brian Daboll.
Haason Reddick should have been named Defensive MVP. He wasn't... Nick Bosa was given that honor (and, then he went sackless during the postseason).
Jalen Hurts should have been named MVP, and frankly, his absence because of injury proved that in our opinion. That brings us to our guy... the author of the greatest strip sack in Super Bowl History... 55 himself... The legend... Brandon Graham...
B.G. is everything Philly ebodies. He reminds us of the Italian Stallion whose statue has stood since the 80s. He's an underdog. He's a Philly icon and a champion like Joe Frazier. And, now , he's an MVP... finally. See? Nice guys can finish first. One of the City of Brotherly Love's adopted sons finally has earned himself a deserved trophy.
Now, this made us smile. We truly could talk about stories like these all day. Brandon Graham and Lane Johnson are the remaining members of the Eagles' Core Four now that Fletcher Cox and Jason Kelce have finally hung the cleats up. The 2024 regular season doubles as 55's swan song, and we're off to a good start. He was honored on May 20th.
B.G. may never find his way to Canton, Ohio as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. That's okay! We'll honor our own. We are certain he'll be inducted into the Eagles' Hall of Fame. His place in the hearts of Birds fans has long been secure.First things first. We have one more season to celebrate, his 15th. Once that wraps, we'll probably spend time arguing that he should have earned at least three or four more Pro Bowl nods to go with his 2020 mention.
