As Darius Slay Jr.'s future with the Philadelphia Eagles has been in question, the finality has been revealed as he will be waived by the team after winning the Super Bowl according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. While the now former Eagle in Slay has teased where he would play next, he will also be “designated a post June 1 release,” meaning that the team will save $4.3 million in regards to the cap.
On the “St. Brown Podcast” with brothers Amon-Ra and Equanimeous, Slay said he would want to play one more year and if it's not with Philadelphia, it would be with his former team in the Detroit Lions.
“Detroit, that's my second home. I do a lot for the city. Still to this day.” Slay said and continued on his sentiment as St. Brown mentioned that it sounded like Slay wouldn't mind returning. “Oh not at all. But you know what I'm saying. If it is, it is. If it ain’t, it ain’t,” Slay said, per Josh Alper of NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk. “For sure, the two spots I would love to always be at is Philly or Detroit. The main two, the main ones I’d love to be at.”
A return to the Eagles possible for Darius Slay Jr.?

As the Eagles seem to be involved in the Myles Garrett sweepstakes, there is reportedly a scenario where Slay returns to the team despite being cut according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. He would compare the situation to that when Philadelphia did the same to Fletcher Cox in 2022, though he would mention how even though Slay is expected to have a market, “he'll be selective” since he's in the twilight years of his career at 34 years old.
“While the Eagles are releasing CB Darius Slay as a post-June 1 cut, a return to the team remains a possibility, per sources,” Schultz wrote on his X, formerly Twitter, account. “Philadelphia took a similar approach with Fletcher Cox in 2022 from a cap standpoint. Slay should have a market, but he’ll be selective at this stage of his career.”
At any rate, the Eagles will look to repeat as Super Bowl champions next season.
