The Philadelphia Eagles will head into the 2025 NFL season as the defending champions after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl last season.
A lot has changed since that Super Bowl win occurred. During the offseason, the Eagles lost quite a few key pieces, especially on the defensive side of the football.
Among the key departures were pass rushers Josh Sweat and Milton Williams. They also saw Darius Slay, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and Isaiah Rodgers leave town.
Howie Roseman has not made a lot of noise late in the offseason. However, there is a chance that he could consider dipping into the free agency market to add another defensive piece. Adding to the pass rush would be a wise move to make for Philadelphia.
Keeping that in mind, the Eagles have been connected as a possible landing spot for one interesting free agent option.
Bleacher Report analyst Matt Holder recently took a look at the top potential landing spots for a few defensive free agents. One of those free agents was none other than Jadeveon Clowney.
Holder believes that Philadelphia would be a top suitor for Clowney.
"The Eagles’ defense took a lot of hits this offseason, including losing Josh Sweat in free agency," Holder wrote. "While Nolan Smith Jr. and Jalyx Hunt are expected to take over, in addition to pass-rush specialists Azeez Ojulari and Joshua Uche, it couldn’t hurt to bring in Clowney as an insurance policy."
Clowney is coming off of a 2024 NFL season with the Carolina Panthers that saw him play in 14 games. He racked up 46 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and four defended passes.
While he has never lived up to the hype that he received when he was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft, Clowney would still be worth taking a flier on.
It's possible that the Eagles will have no interest in Clowney. However, it would not hurt to bring him in and see what he has left in the tank.
