Eagles Make Quiet Move at Running Back on Wednesday

The Philadelphia Eagles are still riding high after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX. While that group of Eagles will be remembered in NFL history forever, the roster will look different next season.

Eagles Make Quiet Move at Running Back on Wednesday

With the new league year officially beginning Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET, teams could finalize signings and trades. The Eagles saw several players move on, including cornerbacks Darius Slay and James Bradberry, safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and quarterback Kenny Pickett.

However, general manager Howie Roseman made some additions to Nick Sirianni's team, bringing in quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson, guard Kenyon Green, and a new running back.

After losing Kenneth Gainwell, Saquon Barkley’s backup, to the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency, the Eagles wasted no time finding a replacement, signing AJ Dillon on Wednesday.

"After a season out with a neck injury, RB A.J. Dillon is on his way back to the NFL. Headed to the Eagles on a one-year deal, source says," Garafolo reported. "Dillon has received clearance from the top neck specialists in the country."

Dillon was a second-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in the 2020 NFL draft and spent his first five seasons with the team. The 26-year-old appeared in 60 games, making 11 starts, before missing the entire 2024 season due to a neck injury suffered during a joint practice with the Denver Broncos in training camp.

Over his career, Dillon has racked up 2,428 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on 597 carries.
