Eagles make big call on Nick Sirianni’s future as NFL freezes tush-push ban

The Philadelphia Eagles’ general manager has just hinted at some great news for fans.Eagles make big call on Nick Sirianni’s future as NFL freezes tush-push ban

Head coach Nick Sirianni is waiting on a contract extension ahead of the 2025 season. He’s been with the Philadelphia Eagles since 2021, was the Super Bowl 2025 champion with the team, and was one of the coaches who helped make the tush-push play so popular and successful.

While the NFL could ban the tush push soon, one thing the Eagles’ general manager said about Sirianni’s future with the team shows he sees him as much more than just a coach with creative plays.

Nick Sirianni is still going to be the Eagles coach

The Eagles’ CEO Jeffrey Lurie said during a conference on April 1 that Nick Sirianni will be the team’s head coach for this season and for the foreseeable future.

“Nick is going to be our coach,” Lurie said. “We don’t talk publicly, we never have, but you guys I’m sure will find out soon enough that Nick will be our coach going forward.”

“Nick embodies connection and intelligence in so many ways, from football intelligence, emotional intelligence, the managing of people,” he added. “He has a growth mindset. He’ll get better.”

While this doesn’t mean a contract has been signed yet, it does make it clear that the GM feels very confident about the terms being discussed and the recent talks between both sides.

So Eagles fans who like what Sirianni has been doing can relax, as it looks like he’ll continue as the team’s head coach. Some comments on social media basically said this was the most expected news lately—and not a big surprise.

“I’d say he’s getting the bag, and well deservedly so too,” a fan wrote. “Biggest “no duh” of the offseason,” another one added.

Nick Sirianni could be forced to get creative again following rule changes

It’s unclear whether Sirianni will be able to keep developing the tush push during the 2025 season.

In the recent set of NFL rule changes—covering things like playoffs and overtime—there was no mention yet of a tush push ban, which is making Eagles fans mad. The final decision has been delayed to a league meeting set for May this year.

So for now, Sirianni still has the tush push as a weapon for those short-yardage plays that help secure touchdowns, just like in the Super Bowl. But it’s easy to guess he’s also planning a few other things for the Eagles in 2025. As Super Bowl champions, the team doesn’t get a priority pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but they still have a strong squad ready to compete for the playoffs again this season.
