Eagles hit significant roadblock in trading Dallas Goedert after first round

32 picks are in the books for the 2025 NFL Draft, and all this has done is add more complications to what is already not a fun situation for the Philadelphia Eagles, who are looking to potentially trade Dallas Goedert.Eagles hit significant roadblock in trading Dallas Goedert after first round

Last week, FOX NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that Philadelphia would continue looking for suitors who'd be interested in trading for Goedert as this has been a theory for a while. Schultz also mentioned the team would be open to trading for future 2026 NFL Draft picks as compensation for the tight end.

Goedert has been a part of the Eagles' organization since they jumped ahead of the hated Dallas Cowboys to select him in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He has made 349 receptions for 4,085 yards and 24 touchdowns in 93 career games for Philly.

With the former South Dakota State tight end in his final year of his contract and having missed 18 games in the last three seasons, the Eagles are seemingly ready to replace him with a tight end who will stay in the lineup consistently. After Thursday night's draft picks, the plan hit a snag.

The Chicago Bears selected Michigan's Colston Loveland with the 10th overall pick, and the Indianapolis Colts took Penn State's Tyler Warren with the 14th. They seemingly would have made nice trade partners. Now that leaves the Eagles contemplating what to do with their 30-year-old tight end.

What are the next options for the Eagles when trading Dallas Goedert?

Indianapolis was going to make a perfect location for Goedert as he is familiar with head coach Shane Steichen's offensive system when the two were together in Philadelphia. The Bears have had some inconsistencies with Cole Kmet so Chicago bringing in a second tight end will help offset those issues.

While those two teams picked tight ends in the first round, it doesn't necessarily knock them out of the running, but it does lessen their chances of trading for an aging tight end when they have younger options. So who is next to go after?

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers have successfully brought in older offensive players lately, and they have played well in their system. Wide receiver Adam Thielen was once thought of as washed up after leaving the Minnesota Vikings, but has had a nice two-year run in Carolina so far.

Tight end hasn't exactly been a strong suit for Carolina, as Ja'Tavion Sanders was the leader in the room last year with 33 catches for 342 yards and one touchdown. Adding a pass catcher for Bryce Young would only improve the passing game and give the Panthers another option, which would enhance the offense.

From the Eagles' perspective, Carolina has three 2026 fifth-round picks that would be good trade assets for them to get. Ideally, if they could somehow pull off a third and a fifth-round pick, that would be great, but they might have to settle for fifth-round picks for Goedert.

New York Jets

The Jets are in a complete rebuild mode with new head coach Aaron Glenn, but they have been adding in necessary pieces to get back to form. A new quarterback in Justin Fields and still have Garrett Wilson to throw the ball to.

New York's tight end room is scarce and needs a top performer badly after Tyler Conklin took his talents to Los Angeles with the Chargers. There are four tight ends with little experience and no older than 26. Goedert would be an instant upgrade at the position and give them another option for Fields to throw to.

Philadelphia could eye some of their late-round picks in this year's or next year's NFL Draft. The Jets have two fifth-round picks and two sixth-round picks this year, while having three sixth-round picks in 2026. That would be enough for Howie Roseman to light up and collect future picks for his team.
