Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill Talking his Way Out of Miami

The Miami Dolphins are a bit of an enigma heading into the 2025 NFL season. They have plenty of talented players, but also a bunch of question marks. This team could either surprise people with a playoff run or end up drafting in the top five next year.

Tyreek Hill Says He Could Leave Miami in the Offseason

The player who could be most responsible for the Dolphins going in either direction is wide receiver Tyreek Hill. He ended last season by telling the team ‘see ya later,’ then said he didn’t mean it. Then he expressed his renewed dedication to the team by doing the lord’s work and taking notes in meetings, and then decided to skip out on training camp stretching activities on Sunday.

Now, Hill is offering his unsolicited opinion on how the team handles third-and-short situations, because that’s what coaches want to hear from an undersized speed demon who is anything but a short-yardage player.

“Take De‘Von [Achane] out on third down — what?” Hill said when asked about these situations. “That’s my honest opinion. If it’s third-and-short, he’s not a power back. I keep telling him that in the locker room, but he swears he’s a power back. I love De’Von, but if I’m being honest like that’s why you got Jaylen Wright, that’s why you got Ollie Gordon II, for those kind of situations.”

Why is poor De’Von Achane getting his name dragged into this?

Tyreek Hill should shut up even though he won’t

It wouldn’t shock anyone to learn that Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is tiring of Hill’s act. I don’t know that for sure, I just think that one could surmise.

McDaniel responded to Hill’s comments in a typical McDaniel way. He brushed it off with humor, but it’s obvious he has plenty of other things to worry about.

“I thought it was genius reporting by Tyreek, seeing how we had a short-yardage period that very day that you guys were in attendance for, and his suggestion was I guess congruent with [running backs coach Eric] Studesville — that’s exactly how we repped the backs in that short-yardage period that very day,” McDaniel said. “But we thought it was funny that he reported the news that wasn’t news on that practice day in that short-yardage period that you guys were all there, too, for.”

In fairness, it sounds like Hill was asked the question specifically, but a response similar to “that’s not my department” would have sufficed.

Dolphins trading Hill to Commanders for McLaurin?

Tyreek Hill has been the subject of much offseason trade speculation. Most recently, his name has popped up following the news that Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin requested a trade. I’m not even sure what that trade would look like. One is a 31-year old with a questionable attitude and healthy contract, the other will be 30-years old soon with one year left on his contract. And, McLaurin obviously wants a new deal commensurate with his 13 touchdowns last year.

An X account called NFL Rumors has “reported” that the Dolphins and Commanders have in fact discussed a trade for these wide receivers.

“The #Dolphins and #Commanders reportedly have discussed a Terry McLaurin and Tyreek Hill TRADE,” the account posted.

Whether or not that’s true or not is anyone’s guess. It’s super duper easy to put that in a tweet and press “post.” No one would ever know if you’re lying and if a deal like that comes to fruition you look prescient.

But, it makes one wonder if Hill is already starting to wear out his re-welcome. However, as with all of this kind of stuff, if Hill goes off when the regular season’s starter pistol does, then all of this is just a distant memory.
